Great Staughton and its people by Anthony Withers, Chapters 34 & Epilogue

2000 Years of English History.

This book is about the remarkable people from this modest Huntingdonshire village who, over the past two millennia of England’s history, exercised power and influence both locally and on the national stage. The book gives a detailed biography of each of these characters, setting their lives in the wider context of English history from the time of the Romans to the present day.

An introduction to Chapter 34: A village transformed and Epilogue

These two chapters appeared in the early versions of the book but they seemed out of place in a narrative that was devoted to the prominent people who played a role in England’s history. I therefore took the decision to drop them from the final version of the book.

I hope that ‘old timers’ in the village will recall some of these post war events and put me right if I have got anything wrong.
